Bulhoek massacre
On May 24th, 1921, the African Israelites gathered at Ntabeianga, BullHoek, to honor the memory of our ancestors who tragically lost their lives in the Bulhoek massacre. The day before, on the 23rd, the commemoration concluded with a solemn service of breaking bread and water. However, on the 24th of May, the Church of God and Saint of Christ observes a day of fasting, where no meals or water are consumed from sundown to sundown. This day holds great significance as a Memorial Day, allowing us to reflect on the courageous individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of God in the Church of God & Saint of Christ. The following day, the 25th, marks a joyous feast accompanied by freewill offerings, celebrating the end of the fast. It is also a day when the servants of God are laid to rest, and the saints engage in the symbolic act of washing their hands. Let us express our gratitude and offer praise to God for the profound meaning behind these observances.
